摘要：A method for emulating an X-ray scanning machine of the type used at anairport to screen for prohibited items (208, figure 2) carried in baggage (210, figure 2) orcargo. The method comprises receiving raw X-ray image data for a scanned object andprocessing this data to identify different types of material in the scanned object.Intermediate image data is then generated that encodes the types of material identifiedat the processing step and is received by an emulator application. At the emulator 404,the user selects an X-ray machine to be emulated, selected from a group comprising atleast two different types of X-ray machines, each X-ray machine using a differentrepresentation scheme for generating images from raw X-ray image data. Simulatedimage data is then displayed on the selected X-ray machine. The emulator (604, figure 6)may be a web-based client (602, figure 6), web-browser plug-in, or implemented as anapplication for a smartphone or tablet. A pre-processing unit (606, figure 6) forprocessing raw X-ray data prior to being received at the emulator is also disclosed.
